Thoughtful Thursday & Comparison

As humans, we have all felt jealous or inadequate at times. We have compared ourselves to others without even realizing we are doing it or taking the time to question it. When we do this, we are viewing the world from a place of scarcity. All or nothing thinking. Thinking that if someone else is good at something and you are not then you never will be. Have you decided that all the talents, good looks and abilities in the world are limited resources and there isn't enough for you? Or, is there something else that you would rather believe on purpose? Could it be possible that you could be inspired by someone as an example of what's possible instead of evidence that you will never succeed? It is impossible to be inspired when we are comparing. I have heard it said,  "Don't compare your beginning to someone else's middle." or "We should not be comparing our behind the scenes footage to some else's highlight reel." Emotions like jealousy, self-do

Thoughtful Thursday & The Model

This simple but powerful tool has been a game changer for me. I have learned that the things outside of me do NOT create my feelings. The results in my life are NOT circumstances that just happen to me. We all have the power to create the life experience we want. Everything happening in any situation fits into the model created by Brooke Castillo. It takes a problem and shows us what is genuinely true. It gives us accountability for every result, good or bad, in our lives. When we start to see that we are creating our current results, we begin to see we have the power to create the result we want. The purpose of the model is self-awareness. We are very good at being aware of the things outside of us. People's behavior.  Events going on arounds us. We are really good at noticing what we think should be different from what it is. But we are not very good at self-awareness. However, using the model invites us to become more self-aware. Our thoughts (T) and feelings (F) bring internal

Thoughtful Thursday & Circumstances

Thoughtful Thursday & Circumstances One of the first concepts I learned about managing my mind was that circumstances are neutral. This is a key piece to gaining awareness. Circumstances are factual. Without opinion. Outside of our control. There is so much power when we realize this. Byron Katie said, "Circumstances are reality, and when you argue with reality, you lose, but only 100% of the time." The world presents neutral things to us constantly. We then choose how we will interpret them. Positively. Or negatively. By divine design, we are presented with circumstances as part of our earthly experience. It is all part of being human on the journey to becoming. The circumstances are NOT the reason for our pain. It is our thoughts about them that are causing us pain. We will never win the battle against reality. Eckhart Tolle teaches that the only power we have is in this present moment. When we fight against reality, we lose in our present moment. Some people believe

Thoughtful Thursday & Useful Information

Questions are powerful. It is normal for our brains to ask us questions. It happens all the time. However, we want to make sure that these questions are providing us with useful information.   We can determine this by the answers we give. Q: Why can't I seem to be on time? A: Because you are undisciplined and lazy. You will notice that this is not very useful. Q: What is one thing I could do to make it easier to get out the door? A: I could lay out what I am going to wear the night before. Much better. Q: Why is she so selfish? A: I have no idea. Not useful. Q: What is she struggling with? A: Maybe she is feeling insecure. This is more useful. Q:  What is wrong with me? A:  So many things. I don't know where to start. Painful. Q: What is one thing that I appreciate about myself despite my human flaws? A: I am kind to others.  This feels so much better.  As we become more aware and choose our questions carefully, we can find useful information that will better serve us.
